about

“Fish Me A Dream” will be free to stream and download. I gave it this name because the whole project is built on some of the philosophical principles of music about which I care deeply. Much of the music that we consume today has a message, image, or concept superimposed onto it. Frequently these extra-musical ideas can become so entwined with the music that they actually become the medium through which we begin to listen to and interface with music. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing is an entirely separate discussion, but I believe removing these layers that are placed on top of Music can reveal something to us. It shows us that pure music without the extra gizmos cannot really be created or destroyed. All music exists already, it’s just occasionally some of us are fortunate enough to express it. It is literally just math. And instruments are the technology we use to render that information in a medium we can consume with our ears. The commercialization and marketing of music has added extraneous things to music in order to make it profitable, but once this is stripped away none of us can really take credit for any music that exists nor are we in a position to determine its absolute value. Music is a gift to us. All of it exists in its infinite totality already. It is only by elevating our minds and mastering a discipline that we can be blessed enough to uncover what has already been created. This album (to the best of my ability) has been stripped of these things. The music has no real genre, no message or agenda other than itself, and I’m giving it away because it was given freely to me. In addition to this my dear friends gave so freely of their time and talent to make it possible. If you really want to make our work worthwhile pass it along to someone who you think will enjoy it! I realize of course that approaching Music with this philosophy isn’t entirely practical in the world in which we live, but that’s why it’s just a dream!

The Selekt is an ensemble of musicians that I formed that share these philosophies and principles. We're whoever we need to be at the time to spread the message that we need to. Thanks so much and enjoy the music!
